A Digital Signature is required to digitally sign any
documents in electronic format or for transactions being
performed through a web-browser.

many types of Digital Signature Certificates which is
only provided by two certifying authorities ( CA) in
India i.e. (n)Code Solutions & Safe Scrypt. Safe Scrypt
launch this product with name Safe EXIM or Safeexim or
Safe-Exim where as (n)Code Solutions launch this with
name (n)exim or (n)Exim or (n) Exim.
What is the use of DGFT
Digital Signature Certificates?
With a DGFT Digital Signature or Safeexim
or (n)Exim you can apply for
licenses electronically with the DGFT and digitally sign
your online license application using your Safeexim or
(n)Exim DGFT Digital Signature.
What is (n)Exim?
(n)Exim is a special kind of Digital Signature
Certificate exclusively for the EXIM Community of India.
It is issued to Organizations/ People who have obtained
a valid IEC Code. It is mandatory to have a (n)eXIM to
able to communicate with DGFT online.
A DGFT Digital Signature is required to digitally sign
any documents in electronic format or for transactions
being performed through a web-browser on the DGFT
website or portal. It is mainly used by the EXIM
(Exporters & Importers) community registered with the
DGFT (Directorate General of Foreign Trade) in India.
A DGFT Digital Signature is issued to Organizations or
individuals (any person from an EXIM Org. who is
authorized to transact with DGFT on behalf of the Org)
who have obtained a valid IEC (Importer Exporter Code)
code. A DGFT Digital Signature can be used to apply for
licenses electronically with the DGFT and digitally sign
online license applications. In fact it is mandatory to
have this DSC to able to communicate with DGFT online.
DGFT has extended attractive monetary incentives
amounting to 50 % waiver on license fee for those
Exporters & Importers using DGFT Digital Signature
Certificates. Advantages of a DGFT Digital Signature
includes reduced paperwork, reduced costs, reduced
turnaround time and convenience. Moreover logging into
the DGFT Portal using a DGFT Digital signature is far
more secure than using a ID & Password.
The DGFT
Digital Signature Certification is
for importers and exporters. A Digital Signature
authenticates electronic documents in a similar manner a
handwritten signature authenticates printed documents.
This signature cannot be forged and it asserts that a
named person wrote or otherwise agreed to the document
to which the signature is attached. The recipient of a
digitally signed message can verify that the message
originated from the person whose signature is attached
to the document and that the message has not been
altered either intentionally or accidentally since it
was signed. Also, the signer of a document cannot later
disown it by claiming that the signature was forged. In
other words, Digital Signatures enable the
"authentication" and “non-repudiation” of digital
messages, assuring the recipient of a digital message of
both the identity of the sender and the integrity of the
message. A DGFT Digital Signature Certification is
issued by a Certification Authority (CA) and is signed
with the CA's private key.
A Digital Signature Typically Contains
Owner's public key, the owner's name, expiration date of
the public key, the name of the issuer (the CA that
issued the Digital ID), serial number of the digital
signature, and the digital signature of the issuer.
Digital signatures deploy the Public Key Infrastructure
(PKI) technology.
If you file electronically using Digital Signature you
do not have to submit a physical copy of the return.
Even if you do not have a digital signature, you can
still e-File the returns. However, you must also
physically submit the printed copy of the filled up Form
along with the copy of the Provisional Acknowledgement
Number of your e-Return.
How Legal Is A Digital Signature?
India is one of the select bands of nations that have
the Digital Signature Legislation in place. This Act
grants digital signatures that have been issued by a
Licensed Certifying Authority in India the same status
as a physical signature. Digital Signatures deploy the
Public Key.
Foreign Trade made possible with Digital
Signature Certificate.
Foreign Trade and Digital Signature Certificates
Export and Import Organizations (EXIM organizations) can
apply for licenses online which means that they can also
file accompanying documents electronically on the DGFT
website. Since a Digital Signature Certificate ensures
authenticity of the document, DGFT has mandated use of
Digital Signature Certificates with all electronic
documents uploaded on the DGFT site. This means that
every EXIM Organization needs to necessarily have a
Digital Signature Certificate for transactions related
to the DGFT website. On validating the identity of the
sender, authenticity of the documents and validity of
the DSC, DGFT then processes the documents for licence
issuance. In addition to convenience, online submission
of applications on the DGFT website also mean a 50%
reduction in licence fee for EXIM Organisations.
Organizations can prevent fraudulent practices such as
identity thefts by filing bills of entry using a Digital
Signature Certificate. If an organisation is filing
documents through Custom House Agents, it is important
that all documents filed are accompanied by a DSC.
A Class 3 Digital Signature Certificate is essential for
any organisation seeking an Import or an Export Licence
that needs to be registered in the name of one
representative authorised to represent the organisation.
Since a Digital Signature Certificate is recognised by
the legal system, all documents submitted using a
Digital Signature Certificate is considered on par with
physically signed documents, and also attract benefits
endowed upon them through the Indian Information
Technology Act 2000.
Why do I need a Digital Signature Certificate?
A Digital Signature Certificate authenticates your
identity electronically. It also provides you with a
high level of security for your online transactions by
ensuring absolute privacy of the information exchanged
using a digital certificate. You can use certificates to
encrypt information such that only the intended
recipient can read it. You can digitally sign
information to assure the recipient that it has not been
changed in transit, and also verify your identity as the
sender of the message.
Where can I use Digital Signature Certificates?
You can use Digital Signature Certificates for the
following:
For secure email and web-based transactions, or to
identify other participants of web-based transactions.

TLS encrypted secured sessions between your website and
the user for web based transactions.
